'The Chorus has it wrong. It's not about subsuming the self to reach Oneness, it's that we've got to find a road together. Each of us has a spark of divinity in us, a primordial fire that must be nurtured to cleanse our bodies of impurities and allow our souls to reach sublime heights. If we fan that fire together, there's nothing we cannot overcome.'

History

Born to a Tibetan refugee and a local chorister, Azkander grew up indoctrinated by the faith- but it was perhaps religion-heavy household that drove him to seek out his own way, gathering adherents of a new faith. The Cult of the Phoenix is a low key group- equal parts neighborhood watch and sewing circle who buys into Azkander's big beliefs and bigger ambitions. Azkander's beliefs draw on those taught to him by his parents- western mysticism tempered with eastern truth-seeking, but a paradigm wholly his own. While his beliefs share much in common with the Chorus and the more traditional Cult of Ecstasy, the truth is that Azkander cleaves to neither of their core ideologies. Instead, he seeks a greater truth.

Paradigm

Azkander believes that each individual soul holds a spark of divinity, a piece of divine starstuff that can be nurtured by learning to shed the illusions of the physical world and connect on a primal level with primordial forces- a paradigm which has shades of Chorister Oneness and Hermetic Godform ideology but has transcended those to become something wholly new. This 'true communication' seeks the evocation of emotions to tear through the shells of stasis that continue to encroach upon the world. From a mechanical standpoint, this apes high ritual- Azkandar dresses up in a particular manner, effects a particular style of behaviour to gather 'favour' and 'faith', and through a primal- and oft tantric joining- he harnesses that power into something usable.
