Axelle Venamus comes from a long line of low ranking Crusaders. She made a name for herself during the War as a junior officer, and then a bigger name during the clean up operations immediately afterwards, where she pursued Leliel's murderous directions with particular enthusiasm. It was a surprise to all when she was promoted to the Nobility, and her line turned into a minor cadet family under house Samelrand. Axelle has embraced her new status with her characteristic enthusiasm, and is the picture of Jibrilite noble excess (particularly jarring among the more reserved Auraden/Republican houses) on all fronts.

As a family of crusaders, Axelle and her kin lack the usual noble etheric sensitivity, however they make up for this with their relationship with the etherically gifted house Samelrand. Ingria has in fact promised a trio of young Samelrand daughters in marriage to Axelle's male cousins to thicken Venamus' etheric blood. Aside from that, Venamus is still a family of warriors bred, although their sudden access to noble wealth and resources has a fed a growing indolence, somewhat dissipating the martial skill among the house's higher ranks.

Axelle Venamus herself is the picture of a petty tyrant, drunk with power, and long since sunk to the deepest depths of human evil. She runs the Enlightenment camps of Zeta Ward, and does so with a cruelty far beyond what is required, often holding blood sports among her soldiers where the goal is to kill as many prisoners ("numbers," is the term she uses) as possible in a set time, or to kill one in the most inventive way possible. She reportedly bathes in elven blood, and holds several quasi-mystical and pseudo-scientific beliefs, which she is intent on proving to show the rest of the scientific community, at the expense of her captives. If she has one good quality, it is her ability as a singer of rare talent, but even this she taints by piping her music via tinbell into the prison blocks at any hour, and at deafening volumes.

The general agreement is that when the revolution comes, Axelle Venamus will be the first up against the wall. Unless of course it is Axelle's revolution, in which case the wall will be a mercy.
