Your Character

Character Creation in Sphere Robot Heresy is done in four(more like five, really, if you count spending EXP and Money to buy stuff as a step) steps: Choosing your homeworld; choosing your genetic template; generating your characteristics; and selecting your career path.

Choosing your Homeworld

The first step in creating your character is choosing their homeworld, their place of origin. Despite the name, the character does not have to be born on a planet, and indeed can be an inhabitant of a space colony such as Minkowski, or Oceania. A Character's homeworld determines and modifies many things about them, such as their genetic templates, characteristics, and available careers. Your homeworld answers the question "Where is your character from?"

Choosing your Genetic Template

The second step of character creation, your character's genetic template determines "What" your character is. The Human Sphere of 2195 is a truly transhuman society, with a variety of upgrades and templates available. While some templates are purely national, such as the Minkowskan Upgrade and Harawayan Upgrade, others such as the Alpha and Omoikane are far more common. This is not to say that the Human Sphere is entirely transgenic, though. Many PACT and European Union worlds boast fully or majority baseline populations as a result of the fallout from both the Brazilian debacle of the mid-21st century and Stauss-Kaserist philosophy.

Characteristics

Your character's characteristics are numerical values that define your character's capabilities. Characteristics are rated on a skill from 0(Holy shit you're bad) to 100( Think an Essence 10 Solar Exalted with the Infinity Gauntlet). Each characteristic as an attached Characteristic Bonus, which equals the tens digit of the score. Your characteristics are generated by roll two d10s, and then adding in your homeworld and genetic modifiers. For those who do not want to roll, you can instead assign values to your base characteristics from a pool of 120 points, with a maximum limit of points spent per characteristic being 20.
