Ritual Magic
Low Ritual
Low Ritual calls upon the primal forces that underly the universe, extraplanar entities and other fickle, poorly-understood sources of power. It is an idiosyncratic discipline that is unique to each practitioner. Because so much of Low Ritual uses spells and practices that are not empirically understood, it is not as flexible as High Ritual. Conversely it is not tied to any specific magical network, giving its practitioners free roam.
High Ritual
Where Low Ritual draws its power from preexisting sources, High Ritual magic sets up its own source of power. These magical networks can be tapped by any trained mage and are regulated like other infrastructure. As they are constructed from the ground up they and the magic associated with them is empirically understood from an engineering perspective; it is easy to 'tweak' High Rituals in controlled, understandable fashions. However the price is clear; it is intimately tied to its artificial source of power which is inherently limited in expanse.
