You are one of the crew of the new Solar Federation Battleship Penthesilea, a new vessel which is undergoing testing in the Earth/Moon system. The vessel, the largest yet constructed by the Solar Federation, carries a substantial number of new mobile suits, which you are acting as test pilots of. You've been through months of shakedown, and are looking forward to a well earned rest, with the ship now mostly completed.

However, as you head for dock, there's a sudden loss of communications. Civilian news services report military units taking to the streets of the capital. It seems that there's a military coup going on, and you, together with the most advanced ship in the Federation navy, are caught right in the middle.
