Concept: O'neill Cylinder array in a heavy elements nebula surrounding a failed star.
The expedition was funded by Tenser Industries and involved many of their scientists and engineers who were working on sensitive projects then facing litigation. Rather then bow to the pressure from the UN, Tenser loaded up a significant portion of its Sol based workforce and left with the blessings of the Posthumans.
The Neferti Nebula Cluster was their destination. A curious nebula made of failed starstuff, it was initially just a curiosity being studied by the colony ships while their limpdrives recharged. However, the discovery of abundant water-ice in the system's kupier-belt analogue, as well as a freefloating structure of unknown design convinced the leaders of the expedition to devote more time to study.
The longer the expedition stayed, the more they yearned to learn about the nebula, and the strange structures that were occasionally spotted within. During the early 2080s, one such structure was 'captured', and discovered to be a precursor automated drone, still operating after millions of years. The massive structure was some sort of helium harvester, moving from the rich He3 flows in the inner nebula, to a jump point on its outskirts. The gathered He3 was deposited in orbit of a Kupier object, where its orbit eventually decayed and it fell. The object was named 'Nocturne', for the perpetual night it experiences, and a small outpost was established.
With their stay at the nebula looking to be increasingly permanent, and contact with the main branch currently impossible, the regional heads of the expedition made the decision to canabalize their ships and whatever reasources they could find and construct a permanent presence. Initially constructing O'neill cylinders from Kupier-belt objects and harvested precursor drone-structures, the colony was soon thriving. As more colonists were woken and introduced to their new home, a sociopolitical schism began to spread across the colonists- between those who were assured a planet beneath their feet and not endless travel in space, and those who were content to live here, away from the prying eyes of the core.
In 2090, contact was reestablished with the core, and Tenser, eager to see what had become of their expedition, reaffirmed its control of the then-fledgeling colony. Asserting control was not a bloodless happenstance, as several independent interests had sprung up in the name of capitalism. Ruthelessly suppressed, Tenser began arming and equiping its own paramilitary ground force to replace the colony's own- believing that it is better to have a truly loyal military force, than to have the population trust you.
It was this changing of the guard that served as the initial spark of discord that would later result in the Testament Incident, and the formation of Pyramid.
When the Breakdown hit, Tenser had begun to see a decrease in new artifacts and material being passed back to their main offices from the Nefertan colony. Profits were down, and efficiency, the god of the corporate dynamic, was behind.
While several attempts were made to increase the previously high influx of resources, it was determined that aggressive harvesting by Tenser edict had 'tapped out' the Nebula of its precursor relics, and with no sign of local posthumanity, the decision was made to pack up and move on.
Naturally, the colonists, having invested significant time, effort, and other resources into their current home objected strenuously. But Tenser 'knew best', and deployed its paramilitary ground forces to quell the potential conflict before it could begin. However, they did not count on the objection of the local police forces, which were composed primarily of ex-military men and women who were left jobless when Tenser replaced the military with their own all those years ago. This sharp opposition of trained, efficient, and dedicated soldiers resulted in a brief 'brush war' that lasted for several weeks, before the regional director threatened to decompress Heliopolis, the main O'neill cylinder if the opposition did not give in to his demands and cease their resistance.
Obviously against UN regulation, his act of desperate terrorism would cause irreparable damage to Tenser's reputation- and the colonists knew it. It was a bluff- a stalling measure to keep them in line until Tenser could get its naval fleet to the Nefer system- with the hope that the captains of the colonial navy would not risk damage to the colony, and surrender their vessels and assets.
Fortuitously, the Breakdown struck before the Tenser fleet could arrive. As weeks- and then months of standoff passed, along with the discovery of their sudden isolation, the Governor folded to the pressure from the civilian authorities, and stood down.

This was known as the Testament Incident.

The colony world of Helios saw its earliest beginnings as an outpost from which to launch exploration missions into the deep rim. Situated on the world of Helios 3, nicknamed Neferti, a low gravity world lush with a complex biosphere and extensive precursor dust deposits, the colony would harvest resources to build and maintain an expansive exploration fleet, and bring the wealth of discoveries back to the Core where they could be studied and profited from.

The Breakdown heralded several discoveries that put the new Civilian Colonial Authority firmly into the position to maintain their hold and authority. Starting with the discovery of a posthuman ruin of substantial design on a dwarf planet in the inner nebula, followed by a string of scientific breakthrows, the CCA worked to advance its technological prowess significantly during this period, eventually even cracking the posthuman Delta Dust successor 'Theta' and allowing for limited production of it by modified Delta Fountains. As this trend of R&D continued, and the Tenser remnants were slowly absorbed by what had once been in house developemental interests, the formation of the new government arose from the ashes of the old.
= Nefer Today =

Always meant to be a temporary measure, the Civilian Colonial Authority was rapidly growing bogged down with responsibilities and red tape- designed from its inception as a stopgap measure, it simply was not prepared to handle the increased demands of the Nefertan people, nor the explosion of expansion- all of which required regulation and law enforcement.

Pyramid started as a proposal by the remnants of Tenser, and was supported by several of the leading R&D interests- independent corporations in their own right. Recognizing the need to self govern, as well as the requirements of the civilian population, these interests worked in concert with the CCA to form a new governmental body. Embracing the values of capitalism, but also taking a leaf from the socialist philosophies, the resultant government was keenly interested in providing safety and security to the Nefertan people, but also building a relationship of communal trust so as to avoid another Testament Incident.

The Accords were signed on Heliopolis, and the resultant formation was named 'Pyramid', to represent that Nefer, as a whole, was held up by meticulous and ever continuing work- a great construction that would serve as a testament to the determination and unity of the people who built it.
The Nefer of the modern era is a nation dedicated to a capitalist-socialistic ideal, which melds the earning of resources on a personal level with a healthy safety net available to all residents of the state. This system, while not the height of engineered efficiency such as those used by the so named Magnates, has served Nefer well over the years, and encouraged a healthy trade industry. Given that it is hard to determine where Nefer's government ends and Pyramid Industries begins, Nefer is often stereotyped as a corporate pawn- little more than an industry with a vestigial civilian sector attached. However, this perception is hardly accurate- for while Pyramid is certainly a megacorporation worthy of the name, its operations for the past two decades have largely been fueled by a supreme patriotism and a dedication to its people. Between governmental safeguards, and a healthy optimism, Pyramid has yet to become in truth what it is stereotyped as by many.

To put it simply, Pyramid is the Business of the Government. They handle Nefer's civil service and contribute heavily to its military- although by necessity the military is not under the direct authority of the Board of Directors. If roads need to be laid down, it is Pyramid that handles the work. If new hulls need to be produced, it is the Pyramid Yards that handle the order. While Nefer has plenty of local corporations that vie for contracts and work, Pyramid operates in a market that is separate- to a degree, yet still indisputably linked. Their competitors are foreign governments and star spanning megacorporation, not that new fry franchise that's popped up in Sphere 12.

When the Breakdown virus was countered in 2179, Tenser attempted to reassert control. This attempt, and all subsequent attempts failed, until they finally ceased their efforts to bring Nefer back under their banner. Instead, they and Pyramid signed a sort of corporate armistice- an end of hostilities between the two corporate polities. While Tenser still did not approve of Pyramid's formation or authority, it would no longer attempt to actively undermine its authority.

Perpetually interested in exploration and recovery of 'old style' posthuman technology- technology that was close enough to human understanding to be reliably duplicated, Pyramid spent the next decade mounting expeditions into the local stellar neighborhood, recovering relics and making contact with the local polities. It was during one of these expeditions that a Pyramid trade vessel came to the aid of a damaged ARROWs vessel, offering both assistance and military aid. The ARROWs' ship had been attacked by a local pirate force of sizable power, and left for dead. Only through the timely intervention of the Pyramid vessel was that vessel saved, and its crew rescued from slow asphyxiation.

Always interested in like minded polities, Pyramid- and by extension Nefer, chose to pursue a business relationship with ARROWs, both selling material to them, as well as coordinating expeditions and starchart data. While ARROWs and Nefer have obviously different goals and intentions, their relationship is advantageous enough for both sides to work to maintain.

History

The colony world of Helios saw its earliest beginnings as an outpost from which to launch exploration missions into the deep rim. Situated on the world of Helios 3, nicknamed Neferti, a low gravity world lush with a complex biosphere and extensive precursor dust deposits, the colony would harvest resources to build and maintain an expansive exploration fleet, and bring the wealth of discoveries back to the Core where they could be studied and profited from.

Nefer Today

Uniforms: The uniforms employed by the Nefertan military are an adaption of those used by Pyramid's exclusive military training institute, which serves as a prerequisite to actual military service. The uniforms are a blend of military service finery, as well as the more business oriented garb of Pyramid's civilian employees.

In order to allow for quick identification of roles and specialties, Pyramid assigns each department a specific colour. Those departments utilize that colour on the ties of their uniforms, indicating their specialty.

The most recent up to date Department to Colour information is as follows:

Science - Green
Tactical - Yellow
Medical - Blue
Civilian Authority - White/Other colours (See appendix III for details)
