For centuries the fogs defined the world. They would wax and wane in the oceans and in the wilderness, making travel dangerous. On the world's edge they would slowly move inwards, sometimes halting for generations in one place, and then devouring whole countries in a single night. To the philosophers they were the great primordial chaos devouring the world, to the clergy they were the judgement of God, and the peasants in their villages each made up their own story as they watched the distant doom.

Now the fogs on the world's edge are receding. Inventors create new technological wonders, steel boats, railways, and air ships that cut through the whiffs of fog rising from the wilderness. New liberal ideas are spreading across the world, encouraging change. Some say that it's not only the material fog that's retreating, but also the fog of ignorance that has held the world down for so long.

Yet the new ideas and new ways are not always welcome. Some are angry that their ancient power is eroded away. Others are afraid of new ideas and new faces, upset that their once familiar world is changing beyond recognition. There are even those who worry about what the fogs might reveal as they pull back.

Quick Explanation

The game will be run using the Adventure! ruleset, but without the Z-rays and Hammersmith experiment, some people are just Inspired. I will be adding a couple of new psychic knacks at some point as well.

All characters will be starting as regular, though somewhat exceptional, people and become Inspired during their first or second adventures. I think this will help you pick those knacks and advantages that most fit your character. I will be doing a one on one prequel session with all of the players to let you get a feel for your character, and the sort of social circle he or she is in.

The setting is Victorian Gothic, which means it often revolves around ancient monsters clashing with the latest modern technologies. It is also Gothic, like Dracula, the dark tales of Edgar Allan Poe, or the Rabelaisian horror of the Monk. Everywhere you look corruption is lurking beneath the surface, just waiting to break out and destroy civilization.
