Berehynia was born in the Ukraine in 1983 to a rather peculiar pair of parents, members of a prohibited neo-pagan movement with strong Verbena ties. Though they gave her a mundane name they secretly named her Berehynia, after one of their favourite goddesses. Though she acquired the language she has few memories of this period since her parents emigrated to North America in 1991, taking advantage of their special connections abroad.
Sigrun was born in 1985 and brought up in a Germanic neo-pagan family, with some strong views on cultural and kinship bonds. Suffice it to say that her group was listed as dangerous by many alphabet soup agencies. The real reason was partly that it was closely connected to the Verbena and the Technocracy were aware of this, but after the fallout from Waco and other similar events they felt the need for a lower profile. Though she didn't know it her mentor had carefully moulded her since before she was born, even selecting what soul she should be born with. Throughout her childhood she was formed magically to create an instrument to spread the word of the gods and their people.


Growing up in a small commune it was perhaps not strange that she got some rather peculiar ideas as well as a strong distrust of governments. Despite their odd beliefs her parents believed very strongly in a thorough education, even if she did not always enjoy this. Even from childhood it was clear that she was receiving rather more attention than the other children.
Unfortunately Sigrun's teacher Karolina von Pforzheim was often misunderstood by other Verbena, who thought that some of Karolina's teachings were perilously close to those that had drawn so many Verbena into the maelstrom. Things were not improved when Karolina took Sigrun on a trip of Germany and Iceland, seeking out certain sites and certain old masters who should perhaps best be forgotten. Sometimes Sigrun thought that Karolina was far too willing to make bargains with people best left forgotten. There was a horizon realm where Sigrun had to pay the price for the knowledge Karolina wanted. Sigrun came out changed, afterwards she has trouble remembering what happened there, except in her nightmares.


As she became initiated into the true secrets of the commune she learned the reason why; she was the reincarnation of an old Sarmatian priestess, and tasked with preserving the people and their land. This had been kept from her before, so she would not grow overly proud. Now however came a time of many ordeals as they worked for her to reach awakening. At around 19 she finally did awaken and was taken off to Ukraine to receive further education.
Once her apprenticeship was over she began looking for the best way to carry out her duties. With her good looks and charm, not to mention magic, she found that fame through a musical career was at least doable. Thus she started the goth-pagan band Winterbreath, which has been remarkably popular, but also quite controversial due to its neo-pagan message.
 
Unfortunately her mentor, at the time a respected elder witch, had gotten some new rather interesting ideas. These involved subverting the dead zone around Chernobyl to Traditions use, conjuring spirits at the site of great massacres, and generally dealing with places and entities best left alone. Certainly the Verbena are not squeamish when it comes to giving novices a hard time, but Berehynia still has nightmares about some of the things she experienced.
 
However she learned a valuable lesson in that it was important to adopt the Old Ways to the New World, therefore with the blessings of her mentor she decided to become a singer. In this she was remarkably successful, turning out lyrics about family, kinship, the tie to the land, and pride in your heritage. In short she found it quite easy to gain links with rather dubious groups.
 
Currently she is trying to use her new found fame to help undo some of the damage the technocracy has done to the world.

Paradigm

Kinship and blood ties together the visible and invisible worlds, thus the power of magic is the power of blood. By calling upon the old gods of your bloodline and the ghosts of your ancestors you can work great marvels. Yet the bloodlines must be kept clean, the behest of your ancestors must be carried on. Moreover each people is intrinsically linked to the land on which they dwell, indeed the land itself is sacred. In order to destroy magic the Technocracy seeks to deny this simple, but ancient truth.

Physical Description

Tall, blonde and wild looking, like a Sarmatian warrior woman. Berehynia also benefits from having all the right curves and a haughty, yet intriguing look to her cold blue eyes. There are multiple tattoos on her arms and back, which emphasise her general rebel look. Generally prefers wearing jeans and black leather jackets, with tight t-shirts underneath, but has gone into all kinds of neo-pagan and goth wear.
