'''Major Wilfried Von Rosenfeld''' 

Wilfred von Rosenfeld is the last of his venerable family, the son of an impoverished and landless minor nobleman who immigrated from one of the United Empire's central nations to Otora in search of a brighter future. After a largely unsuccessful decade in Otora, Wilfred's father died nearly as penniless as he had begun and left his son with little option but to enroll in the Otoran State Military Academy. A reasonably capable student, he graduated in the top quarter class and was posted to field duty as a lieutenant with the 5th Royal Armored Regiment on the Otora-Winden border. The outbreak of war came only a few short months later. 

The Otoran military was smashed aside or driven back in every sector, entire units utterly annihilated and countless officers lost. Over the course of the first weeks of the retreat nearly half of the 5th Royal Armored was lost, including most of its ranking officers. As military order crumbled inexperienced Lieutenant Rosenfeld began to demonstrate a natural talent for leadership, organizing an ad hoc tank company around the survivors of his own platoon. Obsolete weapons could not stop the HiME led Wendine tide, but they slowed them down and bought valuable time as winter approached. 

Promoted to Brevet-Captain, Rosenfeld went on to command several flying columns against the invaders, and stayed right on the front as Otora began its counter-offensive. With its determined soldiers now equipped with their own Knightmares, the Otoran military swept forward to victory. Recognizing Wilfried's talent, his superiors made his temporary wartime promotion permanent. A promotion to Major came a few years later, and then a prestigious post with the army's General Staff.
There are few young officers in the postwar army as promising or ambitious as Rosenfeld, leaving further advancement perhaps only a matter of time. 

While he serves his adopted nation with distinction, Wilfried is privately neither a supporter of the current government or even the United Empire's establishment as a whole. In his eyes the out modeled and rotted structure of the Empire was what allowed Wendine to begin the war in the first place, and he quietly wonders if there might be some way to bring about reform to a world of petty bickering states bound together only by a decayed relic. But for now, those are problems are beyond him, and only through rising to the height of personal power might the world be changed. 

The furthest thing from his mind is the affairs of his ancient ancestors, and dark powers lurking in the shadows of the world have revealed themselves only as symptoms of the Empire's decrepit state.
