The system until then had been designated as XS-49; it's large gas giants and asteroid fields making it earmarked for an exploratory refueling outpost by the UN Exploration Vessel ''Magellan'' some 3 years earlier. No suitable planets for colonization meant the formation of a series of space habitats. The first was designated the Cook Habitat in honor of the great explorer, James Cook. The system consequently inherited the plural version of name.
