Five centuries ago, the dark elf Sorceress Minthesis Tam found an ancient book of prophecy buried deep in a hidden library below the world. While faded, the book appeared to predict many events from well after the time of writing. It's final prediction was that, several centuries after the date of its unearthment, a great cataclysm would befall the world.

Inspired and terrified by the contents of the tomb, Tam sought to build a haven from the storm to come. With the help of followers from all Elvish people, she established her haven around a hidden valley in the Ultimir mountains, renowned as the world's highest and most difficult to cross. The valley, an ancient sacred place of the elves which Tam had discovered on one of her adventures was filled with a vast forest of the kind all elves, even drow, hold so dear.

The mountains were reinforced with additional fortifications, and various works were established in the local underdark beneath. Once a comfortable parameter had been established within the mountains and underdark exterior tunnels were sealed with airtight gates. Even the top of the forest valley was sealed with thick crystaline spiders web at high altitude. The new kingdom was a closed system, with water, air and the like constantly recycled.

Populated by many mages, Caer Lonesis became one of the world's leaders in magical and technological advancement. Many clockwork machines were used to make things easier for warriors and workers within. Others were enhanced with magics.

A century ago, the predicted cataclysm came to pass. Something fell from the heavens and waves of storms and heat rushed across the world. In the aftermath, none know what has happened. Now the first patrol begins to go out into the world beyond the mountain that few know.

You are members of that patrol.
