Experience Point based chargen, assuming the most efficient XP distributions. Characters won't get any weaker, just non-minmaxed characters will be stronger. Character Spreadsheet here

General Rules

Leftover XP may be folded into XP in the same category to buy something (so leftover Primary Attribute XP may be folded into Secondary or Tertiary attributes, for example). If you still can't buy anything with the remainder fold it into 'general/freebie point' XP.

Attributes

Characters start with 1 dot in each attribute for free, as normal.

Quick Reference: Attribute Costs

  • 1 dot: 0 XP
  • 2 dots: 0 + 4 = 4 XP
  • 3 dots: 4 + 8 = 12 XP
  • 4 dots: 12 + 12 = 24 XP
  • 5 dots: 24 + 16 = 40 XP

Primary

Most efficient distribution: 5/4/1

Characters thus have 64 XP for primary attributes.

Least efficient distribution: 3/4/3 (48 XP, 16 XP penalty)

Secondary

Most efficient distribution: 5/2/1

Characters thus have 44 XP for secondary attributes

Least efficient distribution: 3/3/2 (28 XP, 16 XP penalty)

Tertiary

Most efficient distribution: 4/1/1

Characters have 24 XP for tertiary attributes

Least efficient distribution: 2/2/2 (12 XP, 12 XP penalty)

Abilities

Reference

0: 0 XP
1: 3 (0 + 3) XP
2: 5 (3 + 2) XP
3: 9 (5 + 4) XP
4: 15 (9 + 6) XP
5: 23 (15 + 8) XP

Costs

Each ability is worth 3 XP if used most efficiently.

Characters start with 39/27/15 XP for the three Ability categories.

Least efficient distribution: as many abilities at 2 as possible (6, 4, 2) and remainder at 1: 69 XP (12 XP penalty)

Willpower

Starts at 5.

Arete and Spheres

Arete

Arete starts at 3.

Spheres

Most efficient: 3/3 breakdown

Characters start with 65 XP for Spheres. They must purchase at least one dot in their Tradition's favored Sphere (assume that costs 10 XP as well).

Least efficient: 2/2/2 (17 + 18 + 18 XP, 53 XP)

Backgrounds/Merits/Flaws

21 XP. Backgrounds and Merits cost 3 XP/dot or point. Flaws give 3 XP/dot or point. No more than 21 XP from flaws.

Familiars Via XP

Freebie Points

Most efficient purchases: WP to 10 (5 + 6 + 7 + 8 + 9 = 35 XP), buying 5 abilities from 3->5 (6 + 8 = 14 XP, times 5 = 70 XP)

Characters get 105 XP of 'freebie' XP to shore up every other area.

Least efficient purchases: 1 additional sphere at 2, 1 BG point (18 + 3 = 21 XP)
